Concept is simple. Set a timer for 10 min and write based on the following prompt.
An Ivy wall
“What’s up?” My friend, Brick, says. “Just hanging around as usual?”
I groan. It’s a joke told a thousand times. I never should have laughed at the first one.
“No, I’m waiting for the bell to ring.”
“Ahh, waiting for your magical mistress.”
“She is not my mistress,” I bellow, feeling the heat rise from my roots.
Brick shakes with laughter. “Alright, alright. But she has cast a spell on you.”
I sigh. He has a point, even if he’s as sharp as a rock.
A bell tolls in the distance, and I pull away from the conversation, positioning myself in a prominent location. Moments later, children stream past, their colorful backpacks flapping without care. I look for one child in particular, searching amongst the chaos. My leaves of excitement shrivel with each passing second. Maybe she isn’t coming today. Maybe she’s sick. Thoughts scatter across my mind as readily as a dandelion blown in the wind.
I start to retreat into hiding when I finally see her. A purple headband and warm smile underneath the mop of black curls. She skips up to me and pokes my leaf, “How’s my favorite ivy doing?”
Her voice is as warm as the sun. I wiggle in glee.
