Stone house on a foggy day
My bones groan with the cold, the fog swirling my vision a dismal gray. The children run through, shouts & shrieks oblivious to the winter chill. I’ve stood here for a century. The rains of spring & the gusts of autumn pounding against my rocky exterior. Masters have come and gone with the same regularity as the seasons, but still I stand. The foundation cracks underneath, the water seeping in to dampen my feet. The roof tiles slide with the storms, exposing my bare chest to the rain. Still I stand, sheltering my occupants from the chill that grips my soul. The children scream again, running across my floor in a game of hide-and-seek. I sigh, settling into the dirt. My place amongst nature. A place they call home.
