5 min writing Feb 2026

Concept is simple. Set a timer for 5 min and write something based on the following prompt.
A futurisitc classroom

The white cylinder twirls in the air, a rare physical object inside our holographic classroom.

“Can anyone tell me what this is?” Our history teacher says, catching the object as it falls with a grin, the twinkle in his eye scintillating with glee behind a large, unkempt beard.

Silence meets his question. Not a single one of us wants to hazard a guess & break the bubble of uncertainty that encapsulates our teenage egos.

“I’ll even give you a hint,” the teacher says, walking around the room. He holds the object between his thumb & forefinger, pantomiming a left-to-right motion.

I fidget with my earbud, the only tech our history teacher allows in the room, as the girl next to me hazards a guess, hesitancy swimming like salt in the ocean in her voice. “Is it a fossilized finger?”

“Nice guess, but no.” His grin widens, spilling teeth out from behind his whiskers. “Anyone else?”
